Cabernet Franc: Undoubtedly one of the most sought-after red varietals, Cabernet Franc is often found in blends with Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. However, the growing demand for Cabernet Franc has led to an increase in standalone offerings of this remarkable red over the past decade.
Regions such as the Loire Valley, Napa Valley, Sonoma County, and Tuscany have excelled in producing Cabernet Franc, offering outstanding quality at reasonable prices.
I recently had the pleasure of trying a bottle from Gail Wines in Sonoma County and was captivated by the wine’s elegance, especially considering its retail price of only $35. It has quickly become my favorite, surpassing all others in its price range. As the weather cools, I encourage you to experience this wine for yourself, regardless of the occasion. I assure you, it will not disappoint.

2020 Gail Wines Sonoma County Nelligan Road Cabernet Franc | $34.91
While GAIL wines typically feature single vineyard wines, in 2020, we came across two stunning Cabernet Franc vineyards on Nelligan Road, up Nuns Canyon. The young Franc vines from the Deering Vineyard, located at the bottom of the road, yielded very little, so we decided to complement the lot with much older Franc from the Nuns Canyon Vineyard at the very top of the hill.
The aroma presents a delightful burst of blue fruits with hints of bay leaf, pepper, and a savory note that lingers. The palate is of moderate weight with refreshing acidity, offering a flavor profile of blue fruits, garrigue, pepper, and a subtle lift of red fruit.
